Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation Participates in the 2023 Shanghai-Hong Kong-Ningbo Transportation Technology Forum, Promoting Exchange and Cooperation in Transportation Technology between Hong Kong and Mainland

On November 8, 2023, a delegation led by Ir. Ian Chung, President of the Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation, attended the 2023 Shanghai-Hong Kong-Ningbo Transportation Technology Forum in Shanghai. The forum, co-hosted by the Shanghai Highway and Transportation Society, the Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Ningbo Highway and Transportation Society, was themed "Intelligent Transportation and Green Travel", aimed at accelerating the digital transformation and integrated development of intelligent transportation.

At the forum, two members of the delegation from the Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation, Dr. Xie Siqi and Mr. Clement Ho, delivered keynote speeches. Dr. Xie Siqi's speech was titled "Development and Prospects of Smart Travel in Hong Kong". She gave a detailed analysis of the development and future prospects of smart travel in Hong Kong, emphasizing the importance of people-oriented transportation strategies and the development of smart travel through advanced technology. Mr. Clement Ho's speech was titled "Strategic Research on Hong Kong Transportation 2050". He deeply interpreted the future transportation vision and related strategic blueprint of Hong Kong, especially emphasizing the importance of green travel in Hong Kong's transportation planning. He explained the goals of the "Strategic Research on Transportation" currently being conducted by the Hong Kong government, aiming to build a city that is both high-density and livable.

The impressive speeches of these two experts not only showcased the latest achievements of Hong Kong in transportation technology innovation and intelligent transportation, but also showed the determination and strength of the Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation in promoting the development of the industry under the theme of "Intelligent Transportation and Green Travel” and improving the professional level of the industry.

The successful holding of this forum not only deepened the exchange and cooperation between Hong Kong and Shanghai, Ningbo under the theme of "Intelligent Transportation and Green Travel", but also demonstrated the determination and strength of the Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation in actively participating in mainland transportation field exchange activities and promoting the development of the industry. This event has strengthened the cooperation among highway societies in various places and has built an indispensable platform for deepening experience exchange, sharing achievements, discussing technology, and researching topics.

The Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation looks forward to establishing cooperative relationships with more domestic and foreign counterparts and academic institutions to jointly promote the development of the highway engineering and transportation industry. The Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation will continue to promote technological innovation, strive to achieve safe, efficient, environmentally friendly, promote economic growth and sustainable development of highway engineering and transportation planning, and provide Hong Kong solutions, and contribute Hong Kong's strength to realize a better life and common prosperity for the people.

Embracing a Green Transportation Era: A New Opportunity for the Future

Hong Kong Institution of Highways and Transportation (HKIHT) is honoured to participate in the Sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) on 7th November 2023. The CIIE is a renowned expo focused on imports, providing organizations with a fantastic opportunity to showcase their expertise and explore new possibilities.

We supported Ms. Angela Lee, JP, Commissioner for Transport, HKSAR, as one of keynote speakers in the morning transport forum at CIIE. During the presentation, Ms Lee shared the latest transportation vision and strategies to improve traffic efficiency in Hong Kong.

During the morning, experts shared valuable insights ranging from system development to city planning at large. They discussed the integration of artificial intelligence, city information modeling, knowledge graphs, big data platform, automation vehicle systems, and transportation planning in the context of city information planning in China.

In the afternoon, our President Ir Ian Chung participated as one of the panelists on "Accelerating Digital Transformation in the Transportation Industry" at the third Intelligence Transportation Shanghai Forum. This forum emphasized the significance of leveraging technology to drive efficiency, sustainability, and innovation in transportation, with a particular focus on digital intelligence and low-carbon solutions.

The panel discussion served as a valuable platform for industry experts to exchange ideas and experiences, shedding light on strategies and opportunities for embracing digital transformation in transportation. contribution to intelligent transportation development in China showcasing the city's achievements in intelligent transportation infrastructure.

The CIIE has served as a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration, enabling HKIHT to showcase Hong Kong's expertise in highways and transportation. Its an opportunity to gain valuable insights and innovative solutions to overcome future challenges.

香港公路學會青年幹事參與青年高峰會議及惠州考察團

香港公路學會兩名青年幹事,Vincent Poon及Natalie Lau,於2023年9月9日至10日參加了由「香港工程、建築、測量、規劃及園境專業團體」舉辦的青年高峰會議及惠州考察團。該活動旨在推動香港可持續發展,制定相關發展方向並培養專業人才。

峰會聚集了20多個香港專業團體,共同探討香港在粵港澳大灣區高質量發展中的角色,肯定香港在大灣區發展的機遇和優勢,並攜手就人才短缺問題提出建議。

此次峰會取得積極成果,共同制定了五項永續發展宣言,包括培育專業和團隊精神、建設韌性城市和社區、應用創新科技、推動性別平等工作場所,以及配合國家雙碳目標實施環保策略。這些宣言旨在引導專業團體的成員共同努力,推動可持續發展的目標。

峰會期間,與會者就專業團體角色和業界發展等議題進行深入對話和交流,從而加強業界內部的合作與共識。此外,代表團還參觀了惠州當地科技企業,包括比亞迪、惠陽環境園和惠州仲愷港澳青年創業基地。這些參訪活動為香港與惠州青年在粵港澳大灣區共同發展提供了合作機會。

Site Visit for Guangdong Highway Society

On 18 August 2023, the site visit organized for the Guangdong Highway Society (GDHS) in collaboration with the Highways Department (HyD) and the Transport Department (TD) was a resounding success. The visit facilitated valuable knowledge exchange, fostered collaboration, and promoted best practices in the field of long-span bridges and submerged tunnels. Through engaging discussions, site visits, and presentations, the visit strengthened ties, enhanced mutual understanding, and paved the way for future collaborations aimed at advancing highway infrastructure and transportation systems. The visit was instrumental in promoting progress and excellence in our country's highway practices and standards.

World Transport Convention and Transport Science and Technology Expo 

On June 14-16, 2023, the Hong Kong Institution of Highways (HKIHT), led by its President Ian Chung, went to Wuhan to attend the World Transport Convention (WTC) and visited the Transport Science and Technology Expo. During the convention, HKIHT and China Highway and Transportation Society (CHTS) held talks on future exchange and cooperation matters and agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as joint activities and exchange of young engineers to promote the integration and development of transportation engineering in the Mainland and Hong Kong. In addition, HKIHT President Ian Chung participated in the "One Belt, One Road" International Transportation Forum and proposed to train engineering professionals who are familiar with international standards to meet the market demand, in view of the compatibility problems faced by China in overseas infrastructure markets.

共有13位申請人透過香港公路學會,於2022年12月底通過廣東省工程師學會和廣東省公路學會的最終審核,分別獲得正高級工程師(6人)、高級工程師(3人)、工程師(3人)和助理工程師(1人)資格證書。

該水平評價同級申報工作的順利展開,將有利於推動粵港澳大灣區公路工程領域的高質量發展,加快推進粵港澳大灣區工程師資格互認試點工作,開拓內地與香港工程師資格互認新模式,方便香港地區技術人員投身大灣區建設。
